Sun Jian is
the patriarch of a very well respected family that includes two sons
and a
daughter. He is a widower, but buries
himself in work to avoid having to deal with emotions.
Sun Publishing is a family company that can
be dated back almost a hundred years in the Luo Yong area.
The company has branched out in the past
twenty years to not only include the local newspaper, Sun Times, but
also a
reputable book publishing company, one radio station, a freight railway
and the
lumber mill on the Chang Jiang. Sun Jian
is a family man, despite distancing his emotions, and loves his
children more
than anything. Each one is working
alongside their father in the company they will inherit.
The family stays together, so far as living
with their own families in
Liu Bei is a simple man who built a construction company with his hands and virtuous nature. Shu Construction, Inc. grew from a small business agreement between three college friends into a sprawling corporation. Liu Bei maintains an honest and caring relationship with all of his employees and they are devoted to him. Shu is the prominent name in the construction industry in the Luo Yong area and Liu Bei employs the foremost experts in their fields to head up crews of sub-contractors. He lives in the farmhouse he was born in next door to the converted dairy barn that houses the offices of his small empire. He is also a widower, but his child is only five.
Meng Huo is a ruthless man who won the Nanman forest in a poker match. The forests were useless, until Sun Jian needed more wood for his mills. Then Meng’s wife, Zhu Rong a shrewd woman negotiated a very good deal with the publishing mogul. Using the method of ‘we have what you want and no one else does’, Jian finally came to the table with an offer that was very pleasing to the pair. They now live in comfort in a 3000 sq ft home in the woods, but they want more. They wait for the inevitable turf war to begin, before they set their plans in motion.
Luo Yong is
the capital city, a typical urban site with white collar work, some
small
industry and poverty. The main offices
for Wei Broadcasting and The Sun Times are located downtown. Crime is high and men are easy to buy. Dong Zhou is the mayor, a power hungry man
with a love for woman, and he has made it very clear to the influential
men of
the city that his assistance needs to be bought, and Cao Cao has padded
his
pockets with enough funds to ensure his interest is seen to first. On the side he has a very profitable
business run by the beautiful Diao Chan, called the Luo Yong
Underground. She came to him an expert in
extortion and
he delivered the bloodthirsty hit man Lu Bu into her maniacal fingers.
Lu Bu
helped recruit an old war buddy, Zhang Liao, to handle the pyrotechnics
and
they have been exceptionally efficient ever since.
Also in the city is
his ever present rival,
Yuan Shao the police commissioner. He
is a third generation cop, and he has never been on the take. He knows of the evil that plagues Luo Yong
and waits for the day when he can crush Dong Zhou and he hopes that it
is in
the next mayoral elections. Sun Jian
will use all of his influence to support him, just to dispose of Cao
Cao’s
puppet in city hall. He has a weakness
however, and that is gambling, something his enemies are fully aware of.
Zhang Jiao is the founder of the Way of Peace Coalition. He and his brothers Bao and Lu run a small religious political organization that believes in socialism as the best possible solution to Luo Yong’s turmoil. Each election Jiao runs and looses, becoming somewhat of a joke to the media. His organization is about to take their beliefs to the next level, terrorism.
